Special exhibition by The Caisson Platoon Therapeutic Riding Program

Washington, D.C., Oct. 12, 2009--Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) is honored to announce that the Caisson Platoon of Ft. Myer, VA, will hold a very special exhibition on Saturday, October  24, at 7:45 P.M. prior to the President's Cup Grand Prix.

The duties of the Caisson Platoon are to bury fallen soldiers. It is done with honor, grace and dignity. The horses and military personal are trained constantly for this duty. These same horses and military service men and women also do therapeutic riding or equine-assisted activities with wounded soldiers from Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The same horses that bury fallen warriors and are helping wounded warriors to heal following the principle of soldiers helping soldiers.

“As we were planning the 2009 show we learned about the work of the Caisson Platoon and asked them to do an exhibition prior to the President’s Cup Grand Prix. We were honored when they said ‘yes,’” says Juliet Reid, President of WIHS. The show has given a national platform to therapeutic riding with partnerships with organizations like the Horses and Humans Research Foundation and Autism Speaks.
