Join the WIHS Volunteer Team
Gain valuable experience and get a peek behind the scenes of a major sporting event by joining our volunteer team. WIHS has a variety of opportunities for volunteers both in the months leading up to the show and during show week, October 26-31, 2010, at Verizon Center, in the following areas:
- Press Room / Media / Marketing
- Silent Auction
- Vendors
- Special events, such as Barn Night and Kids Day, etc.
To sign up:
- Complete the 2010 WIHS Volunteer Application and print it out (this form will not save changes if you try to save the file).
- Return the printed form to Melissa Fairfield, WIHS Administrative Director, by email, Melissa@wihs.org or by fax, 202-525-3686. For questions, call 202-525-3679.
Volunteers will be assigned duties based on interest, availability and experience at the discretion of WIHS management.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Press Room / Media / Marketing
>DUTIES AT EVENT: assist with set up of the press room, escort media, monitor press room, research and fact check, post to website, post to FaceBook, Twitter, assist with magazine distribution. Volunteers will have access to the event level and experience the inside view of the horse show. Some knowledge of the web and social media is required.
>Pre-Event (in WIHS office): Photo research, photo archiving, social media, publication production, proof reading
Silent Auction
>AT EVENT: help set up the silent auction area, hand out bid cards, encourage bidding, answer questions, monitor items to prevent theft, close down the silent auction area in the evenings, help bag and distribute items for the winning bidders. Volunteers in this area will have access the concourse of Verizon Center and wil gain valuable experience in running a multi-day silent auction. Excellent communication, customer service skills and a positive attitude are necessary.
Barn Night
>AT EVENT: help with group organization, direct groups to their seats or location for special events throughout the evening, assist with autograph sessions and crowd control, hand out awards and goody bags. Volunteers in this area will have access to the event level as well and have the opportunity to observe the inner workings of a special event involving and created for thousands of people. Excellent communication skills, ability to remain calm and managerial ability are desired.
Kids Day
>AT EVENT: assist in set up of venue, organize lines, take tickets for pony rides and other special activities, answer questions, monitor games and general support of the event. Experience with children is strongly recommended.
